G-Mation cybersecurity architecture
Gefran has completed two projects centered on the development of the cybersecurity features of the G-Mation automation platform and funded by the Italian PNRR (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza) mechanism, which is financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU plan.
The name of the projects are “Cybersecurity for an edge PLC device + IIoT controller” and “Cybersecurity for the integration of an Edge controller into Cloud applications” – original Italian names: “Cybersecurity per dispositivo edge PLC + IIoT controller” and “Cybersecurity per l’integrazione di un Edge controller in applicazioni Cloud”.
The unique identifiers assigned to the two projects are respectively: CUP H99J24001060008 and COR 22515944; CUP H99J25000090008 and COR 24227052.
Both projects have been executed in collaboration with the MADE Competence Center hosted by the Politecnico di Milano, together with one of the partners of the Competence Center, a company with a deep expertise in cybersecurity for industrial applications.
The key objective of the project has been the validation from a cybersecurity point of view of the unique G-Mation architecture, where all critical interfaces are contained within the PLC and therefore not directly attackable.
The key technology elements addressed by the two projects are:
- extensive analysis of the G-Mation P6 controller in preparation for the IEC62443 cybersecurity certification;
- verification cybersec compliance of the visualization architecture based on a webserver installed on the G-Mation P6 and on browser panels on which no machine-specific application is installed;
- integration of dockerized applications into the cybersecurity architecture of the automation platform;
- securitization of the cloud connection of the PLC by use of a dockerized VPN agent client installed directly on the G-Mation P6.
