MIKOSIS - Lift control systems and panel

MI-KO-SIS, a leading designer and builder of lift control systems and panel, has created a lift controller for an industrial system with a nominal carrying capacity of 15 tonnes, driven at 0.63 meters/second for a height of 35 meters and 6 stops. The components in these systems must supply adequate power for lifting as well as ensure maximum safety and reliability.
The control panel, which uses Gefran’s ADL300 lift inverters matched with MI-KO-SIS’s G2 control systems, provides quality and performance levels that satisfy all requirements.

The panorama of applications in the lift sector is extremely varied, ranging from very simple, low-load systems with basic functions to complex, high-load systems known as freight elevators used at industrial sites.

The customer

Mİ-KO-SİS - Micro Control Systems Electronic Electric Elevator Ind. and Trading Co. Ltd – is based in Ankara, Turkey. Operating in the lift sector since 2005, it designs, sells, and services control systems and lift controllers.

The process

Lifts seem very easy to operate: just push a button to make them run. But behind this simple movement is a complex mix of technology and coordinated applications that guarantee users maximum safety.
Although the system in question is not high-speed, it has to comply with safety standards and make precise stops.

This lift is used to transport heavy materials, so loads handled on lift trucks must be able to enter and exit easily. In addition, given the heavy load, starting and arrival must be controlled in order to prevent jerks and sudden stops.

The problem

Precise alignment at the landing is essential so that loads may exit easily. The system must therefore be able to know the car position in real time in order to arrive precisely at the floor, with no step between the car and the landing.

In addition, heavy loads lower the car when they enter. Therefore, the system must “relevel” (realign with doors open) so that there is no step when additional loads enter.  

Lastly, due to the heavy load, starting requires torque that standard industrial inverters can supply only if they are very large. The inverter must be able to deliver current up to 200% of nominal value (overload management function).

 

The solution

The company’s needs were best satisfied with a custom solution based on an inverter in the ADL300 family with EPC (Elevator Positioning Control) software to control car position.
EPC calculates arrival ramps in real time so that the curve generated achieves millimetric alignment.Use in combination with the MI-KO-SIS control system provides the solution for releveling as well: at every misalignment with the car stopped and doors open, the system automatically corrects the position and returns it to level.

Lastly, because the ADL300 has a high overload value (200% of nominal current for 10 seconds), it can manage high starting current without overheating the inverter.

Other info on the ADL300

The ADL300 series can be used in all applications with geared or gearless technology and has the most important industry certifications based on current European standards for lifts and escalators, such as EN81-1:1998 + Amendment A3.

With regard to safety, the entire ADL300 series has SIL 3 certification according to EN61800-5-2 for contactorless operation.

The inverter also has the CE and UL/Ulc marks for lifts, obtained under the Elevator Controls and Accessories (FQMW/FQMW7) program.

Noisy external contactors between inverter power supply phases and the motor are replaced with silent internal electronic switches. The ADL300 significantly reduces switching noise and is therefore suitable for roomless installation.
The ADL300 can operate in systems with CANOpen communication, with both DS301 and DS417 (CANOpen Lift) profile, as well as with communication based on DCP protocol both in position (DCP4) and speed (DCP3).
